Wild Streets-Get Street Smart

Living in an urban setting for many years has given me the first hand experience to avoid some trouble and sometimes to confront the evil doer. In the upcoming articles please feel free to add your strategies and “urban defenses” to stop this “evil” in our beautiful city, town, or community environment. I use the term “evil” to imply a negative event or reaction. Send me an email to add your comments.
01. I took the time to tour my community and I got to know as many people as possible. I make it a point to visit the same vendors and business people as often as I can so I can know them. One has to know their environment inside and out in order to conquer it. I know that people have said that one should not take the same routine to and from work. I agree so I take a different street, a different mode of transportation and sometimes I take the “alley” just to make sure the routine is not obvious. If you have not tour your neighborhood do it before the summer ends and take some pictures.
02. Talking about pictures, I carry a Lumix, 10x Panasonic DMC-TZI digital camera and it’s a form of security. In that, if I should encounter an “evil” doer or event I will “shoot it” and file it in my computer for later use; e.g. evidence or to warn others of a possible intruder or potential evil event. I found that people are concern about being filmed. The government has already begun to place cameras on our streets, parks, business establishments and some home owner’s contract with security firms to place camera surveillance around their property. It makes sense that your cell phone should include a camera. I plan on upgrading my camera to the new Lumix with a GPA.
